Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
The SMTP protocol is used for sending e-mail between computers via the Internet. Our SMTP service runs as a service under Windows and uses the v2.0 of the .NET framework. Our SMTP service will run on Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista.
You can host an unlimited number of domains on our SMTP service, no silly restrictions to 5, 10, 50 etc. users. You can have an unlimited number of domains, and within each domain you can have an unlimited number of mailboxes.
Our SMTP service also supports mail forwarding with the ability to save e-mail in your mailbox as well as forwarding to an unlimited number of additional addresses. Ideal for creating distribution lists etc.
Configuration couldn't be easier than with our Windows based configuration tool. This allows you to configure your domains and mailboxes with immediate effect.
You can setup primary or secondary mail services on a domain-by-domain basis. E-mail destined for primary domains are stored in mailboxes ready for collection via the POP3 Service and external mail will be placed in the mail queue ready for sending on by the Mail Queue Service.
There are also a number of built-in anti-spam and Denial of service (DoS) countermeasures. You can specify domains, computers and e-mail addresses to block and there are also rules to block messages by what's in their subject line or content. If you also use our IPDB Service you can also block connections based on the country, network or IP address they are coming from for additional protection. This protection is hierarchical in nature, meaning that you can couple rules together to, for example, block all connection from a country but allow connections from a particular ISP but block connections from ADSL users on that network.
We have also included anti-DoS countermeasures in the SMTP Service (and the POP3 Service) that instantly rejects connections from an address that attempts to connect too many times in a short space of time. This is a common way of trying to overload servers and stop them from being able to service genuine clients.
Our SMTP service provides extensive logging facilities so that you always know what's happening. There are different levels of output depending on whether you are troubleshooting connections or simply want an overview of the mail system.
